MANAGEMENT TIPS

TELL A CLEARER STORY ABOUT AI

How you talk about AI shapes how your employees respond to it—and adopt it. Vague messages can leave people uncertain about what’s expected, while fear-based or productivity-focused narratives may fail to motivate action. You can give employees a more useful path forward by making your expectations clear and connecting AI to their growth. Be crystal clear on expectations. If AI use is becoming a baseline expectation, say so directly. Explain both why employees should use AI and how it fits into their work. Don’t position an expectation as an optional suggestion. Make it part of what good performance looks like. Focus on growth, not fear. Frame AI around how it can help employees produce more meaningful, skilled work. Show people how the technology can strengthen their capabilities and support their development, rather than emphasizing competitive threats. Don’t confuse ambiguity with honesty. You can acknowledge uncertainty without leaving employees directionless. Be open about what you don’t know while still articulating a clear path forward. Audit the full signal. Review everything employees hear about AI, from leadership messages to investments in tools and guidance on their use. Make sure those signals reinforce the same clear story.  Excerpt from Harvard Business review on management. Ref: NLiN.
