LEADERSHIP -Change your world
Weekend book review program by Noble Leaders initiative Network
Hello there,
It's weekend again.
Welcome to our weekend book review program.
Book Title : Change your world by John C Maxwell and Rob Hoskins
Today we shall be looking at the topic : WHAT GETS DONE , GETS MEASURED.
In this context we understand the importance of measuring our activities to see if they are yielding results. If CHANGE must be felt, then it must be measured.
Martin Luther king in his popular quote stated " Life's most resistent and urgent question (is): What are you doing for others ? "
You must question yourself daily or even weekly to find out what you actually do for others...to support humanity. Remember you can't change your world if you do nothing. It might be your peers , your family , Colleagues or even the firm your work with. We must be very intentional about helping others and aswell helping ourselves, remember CHANGING YOUR WORLD starts with YOU and then to your immediate environ.
Considering the growth mindset, it is very important we keep a record of our progress especially milestone, as this enable us go measure our progress. You can keep a record of your investment (finance and management) , your activities (engagement, opportunities) , your life and career to know how you are progressing and the pace too is very important.
You may not be able to make substantial progress if you don't take note of steps you make daily and your general activities. It will be difficult to decipher the extent of your progress.
" People experience a far greater sense of belonging and more sustainable wellbeing when they connect their effort in the moment with a larger influence on others "- Tom Rath.
When we connect our effort with the level of impact we make on others, we can know the extent to which our effort has helped.
Let's take a look at John C Maxwell and Rob Hoskins reference quote - " We measure what we treasure "
It is only that which we treasure that we measure...
Everyone loves to have a good life , but we must also love the process that leads to that transformation.
Transformation is an evidence of CHANGE. If we ever neglect to measure what we treasure, then that treasure will likely lose its value.
"Leaders understand that activities is not accomplishment" -John C Maxwell
By measuring our activities and the level of impact it yielded, that is when we say we accomplished a goal or not.
These five D's help us to track our progress, as postulated by John C Maxwell.
Discover, Design, Deploy, Document, Dream.
DISCOVER what's really going on, and who is doing something about it.
DESIGN or develop a strategy that begins with the end in mind. Strategies are key ways to solve problem. By employing strategies, we are able to solve problems.
DEPLOY -Start off your journey. Start small, fail soon, adjust often. Progress.
DOCUMENT - measure your outcomes. Measure your activities and keep records of your progress.
DREAM - restart the cycle, discard what doesn't fit in and work with that which works.
We must take note that transformation doesn't just happen, it happens gradually.
"No matter how dramatic the end result, good-to-great TRANSFORMATION never happens in one fell swoop " -Jim Collins
Transformation is a process , not a destination.
Keeping progress of the steps , is the key to Transformation.
You must keep track of every step 🪜 you make (that is process) , towards getting transformation you seek , by doing this you are measuring TRANSFORMATION.
Remember , positive change is the key to positive TRANSFORMATION. It start with you and I. You can change your world from anywhere you are. Start with you and progress to your niche.
